Mother’s Day at Henricus

This Sunday, swing by Henricus Historical Park for Mother’s Day as some of our interpreters will be diving into motherhood during the 17th century!

Start in Arrohateck, where Powhatan Interpreter Coleman Courtney will discuss the leadership roles of women in Powhatan culture and the different roles women and children would take on inside the village. Tagging along will be some young interpreters for the day, demonstrating different Powhatan kids’ games and how to use a bow and arrow.

Then, wander through to Proctor’s Plantation and talk with Historical Interpreter Amanda Tyree about women’s roles among the English in early Virginia and observe period cooking demonstrations. Running around the farm will be another young interpreter showing off children’s apparel of the 17th century, games, and quill work.
