Herbalism Display

Introduction to Herbal Medicine

Participants will explore seventeenth-century medical beliefs and practices. They will learn how medicinal herbs were used by the Powhatan Indians and the English Colonists over 400 years ago in Virginia. Discover what plants and techniques were brought with the English from home, and what was already being practiced by the Powhatans, and explore the similarities and differences between their practices. Finish off the day making herbal creations to take home with you!

This program takes place in both our Powhatan Indian village and on the English side of our site. Some of the program will be outdoors, and some walking is required. Our site is accessible. Adult groups, clubs, college classes, and individuals are welcome. The program is appropriate for ages 16 and older.

Registration is required to attend. Participants are welcome to stay and tour the site after the program if they have chosen the registration option that includes the self-guided site tour (or if they are members). The site closes at 5 p.m.
