History by the Pint Series

History is better with a beer! During selected programs, Henricus will be offering local craft beer from Dancing Kilt Brewery.

November 28: Friendship, Trade, and Feast From 1607-1622, the English and Powhatan people had moments of what the English called “Thanksgiving” characterized by trade, gift giving, and the sharing of food and drink. Several colonial English and Powhatan Indian recipes will be faithfully recreated by Henricus interpreters and volunteers. Visitors will observe how food was prepared and examine typical items that would have been exchanged between the two cultures. If you enjoy the smell of wood fires, iron-pot cooking over hot coals, and clay oven bread baking, come to our annual autumn event!

December 12: Three Centuries of Virginia Christmas and a Visit from Father ChristmasBegin in 1611 at Henricus Fort and see how Dutch ideas influenced English holiday traditions. Move on to 1778, when the Revolution called for simpler ways to mark the season. Next, it’s 1860: celebrate with carols and hot cider while decorating a Victorian Christmas tree by the fireside! Make sure to bring the kids! Your festive journey through time will end with a visit from Father Christmas – he’ll be there to hear everyone’s Yuletide wishes! Make your holidays historical at Henricus.

Admission: $9/adult, $7/children ages 3-12; Henricus Members: free
