The Educator’s Packet offered by the Henricus Education Department includes a pre-visit overview and post-visit activities for teachers.

Summer Teacher Workshops

Workshops may include:

  • Interactive, living history tours of the re-created Citie of Henricus & of the Powhatan Village of Arrohateck
  • Historical Discussion Sessions – 17th-century colonial & Virginia Indian history
  • Sessions on the use of primary sources & archaeology
  • Hands-on activities to take back to the classroom
  • DVDs – Virginia Indians & The Citie of Henricus
  • Problem-based learning for secondary students

Elementary Teachers

Agriculture Through the Centuries (July 20)

Join educators of Henricus Historical Park and Agriculture in the Classroom staff for an SOL-aligned workshop focusing on history and culture and the agriculture of Colonial-era Virginia.  The workshop will include Colonial and Virginia Indian history and agricultural history talks.  There will be grade-level-appropriate hands-on activities relating to primary sources and questioning strategies.  All public, private and home school educators are welcome. Teacher re-certification hours available.

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Educator Open Houses

Annual Educator Open House (April 20)

Participate in guided site tours, demonstrations from school programs, make-and-take activities, discussions about our new and upcoming SOL- and STEM-aligned programs and enjoy light refreshments. Enter a drawing for educational items from our gift shop. Open to public, private, homeschools and other educators. Bring your children!

Time:  2 – 5 p.m.

Cost:  Free to all active educators, administrators and their immediate family members

Adult Group Program Open House (October 5)

See what we have to offer to your club, church croup, college class or organization.  Enjoy our group tours and demonstrations from our new Adult Programs.  Light refreshments available.  Note:  these tours and programs will preview our Adult Programs.

Cost:  Free-of-charge; donations to our Title I Scholarship fund are greatly appreciated
