Three Centuries of Virginia Christmas

And a Visit from Father Christmas!

The 17th through 19th centuries in England, the American colonies, and the United States transformed Christmas into what we know today. Explore what Christmas looked like, smelled like, and sounded like to Virginians throughout these centuries. Visitors will encounter interpreters demonstrating the holidays during:

  • 1616 inside Sir Thomas Dale’s fort
  • 1620 at a Virginia planter’s home
  • 1776 at a patriotic Virginia home and with Revolutionary War soldiers who won the “Christmas Miracle” at the Battle of Trenton, NJ
  • 1860 at a tavern party where a newly fashionable Christmas tree will be decorated.

Your journey through time will end with a greeting from Father Christmas! Make your holidays historical at Henricus.

History is better with a beer! During Three Centuries of Virginia Christmas, Henricus will be offering local craft beer from Dancing Kilt Brewery from 12pm-4:30pm.

COVID-19 Regulations: All interpreters including Father Christmas will be wearing masks. Social distancing guidelines will be in place with barriers between staff and guests. Guests are required to wear masks while inside all venues.
