Henricus has a strong connection to England for a number of historical reasons. Naturally, we work hard to keep history alive in Chesterfield County by supporting the Chesterfield County Twinning Association.
Chesterfield County has a twinning (sister cities) relationship with Gravesham Borough, England, a connection that provides collaborative and cultural exchanges between the two communities. Their common link is Pocahontas, who was born in Chesterfield and is buried in Gravesham.
Chesterfield Twinning Association (CTA) members have the opportunity to host English guests in their homes during future visits, and to be hosted by Gravesham Twinning Association members during their visits to England. Numerous visits have taken place since 2005, the latest being the CTA visit to England in May, 2015. Gravesham is planning to visit Virginia again in May 2016, and the CTA will be returning to Gravesham in March, 2017 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Pocahontas’s death.
Chesterfield Twinning Association meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, visit their web site at www.chesterfieldtwinning.org or contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
