Home School Day – Who’s in Charge Here? Government in the Colonies

Experience a home school education program designed to help meet curriculum goals in a fun, interactive environment at a living history museum. Students will work with our re-created colonial Citie as the colonists set up their militia, economy and way of life.  Students will also learn how the native inhabitants, the Powhatan Indians, organized their successful and widespread society. Students will be divided by age level to work on age-appropriate activities and curriculum. Ages 4-14.

Registration is required by September 4th by calling 804-318-8797.

Admission: $14 student, $8 for accompanying adult

One of our most popular events that takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Join us for our signature annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus. Watch 400 years of history come to life with living history re-enactments, military drills and musket firings, craftsmen and blacksmiths, 17th-century medicinal demonstrations, Virginia Indian activities, historical children’s games and crafts, storytelling and more.

The 400th anniversary of the death of Pocahontas and Rev. Alexander Whitaker will be commemorated. Tour 17th-century ship replica, Godspeed from Jamestown Settlement. Our largest and most popular annual event.

Cost: FREE admission and parking

Participate in a specialized guided tour with many Indian and English Interpreters at the re-created Citie of Henricus and the Powhatan community of Arrohateck. Then board Jamestown’s colonial-era sailing ship, Godspeed. Hands-on activities included. This special opportunity is available only for two days every other year! Bookings fill quickly. All school (public, private, home) and adult groups (adult groups have afternoon hours) are welcome on these special days.
The tour day runs for 2.5 hours; bookings begin at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. No walk-in attendance allowed during the morning hours. Individual walk in attendance welcome from 1 – 2 p.m.

School Group Cost: $14 per student; 1:10 teacher chaperones free. Additional adults: $10 each
Adult Group Cost: $14 per adult

Haunted Henricus Overnight Event

From 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. visitors will experience paranormal delight in one of Virginia’s most historic locations. Spend the evening with Henricus staff and be involved in a paranormal investigation of the historic citie. RSVP in advance as space is limited.  Call 804-748-1611 for reservations.

Boar’s Head Feast

Tis’ the Season to step back in time! Follow the merry Lord of Misrule to England in the 1590s and enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavours of Christmas as we knew it then: a multi-course feast including roasted meats, pies, ale, cider and more, served at table in our spacious, candle-lit Guest House with a blazing Yule log fire.

Dine to the sounds of period musicians, with wassailing a-plenty, and many a toast to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I. Begin your holidays with one of the oldest English Christmas traditions in one of the oldest English settlements in North America: Henricus!
